Association 121, in collaboration with the University of the Republic of San Marino, is organising a public meeting entitled ‘Gender language in the mass media’, to be held on Tuesday 18 November 2025 at 6.30 p.m. in the Aula Magna of the University of San Marino (Viale Antonio Onofri).
The initiative is sponsored by the Secretariats of State for Internal Affairs, for Tourism with responsibility for Information, for Education and Culture, and for Health and Social Security with responsibility for Equal Opportunities.
During the meeting, the speaker Maria Elena D'Amelio, Associate Professor in the Department of Human Sciences at the University of San Marino, will address the topic of gender language as a tool for inclusion and representation.
Through an analysis of the mass media, culture and public communication, Prof. D'Amelio will explore how words and images contribute to shaping social reality, determining who is recognised and legitimised in the public sphere.
Three fundamental themes will be explored in depth:
-language as inclusion: words as tools for recognising and affirming identities and relationships, through the use of chosen pronouns and respectful terms;
-representation and visibility: the role of the media, art and politics in building a more equitable and pluralistic society;
-gender rights and intersectionality: how discrimination based on gender, orientation, race, class and age are intertwined.
Association 121, in collaboration with the University of
An in-depth discussion promoted by Association 121 on language as a tool for participation and recognition, to stimulate debate on how words and images influence the way we live, on their power to recognise, transform and overcome stereotypes.
Free admission.

Public evening for the rights of the LGBT+ community: past, present, and future in San Marino. 🏳️🌈 A meeting open to all to share who we are, where we come from, and where we want to go. 🌼 🗣️We will discuss the birth of our association, the meaning of our name, and the reasons that led us to unite to give voice to the LGBT+ community in San Marino. We will retrace the history of LGBT+ organizations that preceded us, analyze together what has changed with the introduction of civil unions, and listen to firsthand accounts. It will also be an opportunity to share ongoing projects, active collaborations, and the steps we intend to take together with the citizens. The evening will conclude with a space open to the public for questions, reflections, and discussions. We look forward to seeing you!

On Tuesday, 2 September, at 6:00 p.m., rainbow readings return to Montelupo di Torraccia Park.
An afternoon of storytelling organised by “Lettori con la valigia” (Readers with Suitcases) in collaboration with Associazione 121 to celebrate diversity, uniqueness and the beauty of being oneself.
Through the pages of children's books, we will invite children and their families to discover stories about love, freedom and respect.
Among the titles on offer: ‘Zia Lidia si sposa’ (Aunt Lidia is getting married), ‘Per fare una famiglia’ (To make a family), ‘Sono una farfalla’ (I am a butterfly), ‘Tu sei una meraviglia’ (You are wonderful) and ‘Una principessa indipendente’ (An independent princess).
Why do we call them “Rainbow Readings”? Because we are all different, like the colours of the rainbow, and just like the rainbow, together we create something beautiful.
Because we are all different, but we have the same rights, and every child has the right to grow up in a world that recognises and values their uniqueness, without prejudice or discrimination.
LIS interpreter Fabiana Rossi will be present during the readings.
We would like to thank the Secretariat of State for Internal Affairs and the Secretariat of State for Education and Culture for their patronage of the initiative. We would also like to thank the Domagnano Council for their support.
In case of bad weather, the event will take place at the Sala Montelupo in Domagnano.
We look forward to seeing you there!

The official presentation of the association will take place on Thursday 29 May 2025 at 6pm at the Montelupo Hall in Domagnano.
Dear friends of Associazione 121,
We would like to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for coming out in such large numbers to our presentation evening. We filled the Montelupo hall with more than 100 people who came to hear about who we are, what we want to do, and to sign up. This filled us with pride and, above all, made us realise that what we are doing really matters to the community of our Republic. So thank you very much to all of you for such a warm welcome. We hope to receive a similar welcome from the institutions and from all the doors we will knock on to pursue our goals. The birth of the association was immediately reported in the local press, and in the future it will also be reported in the international press.
During the event, we introduced ourselves and explained why we believed an association like this was necessary. We explained the contents of our statute to everyone present and commented on the current state of LGBT+ rights in San Marino, which are not yet on par with those in European Union countries, something we would like to see changed. There were video messages of congratulations from important international political figures working in Europe for the protection of the rights of LGBT+ communities, followed by speeches and interesting questions from the audience, whom we hope we have at least intrigued to follow us and explore these issues further.
The presentation evening was only the starting point of what will be a very long journey, but thanks to our commitment and, above all, that of the volunteers who will give us some of their time to help us in our activities, we are sure that we will achieve more than a few results. Thanks to you, of course.
